Emily Young BA (Hons) Music Therapy PGdip
Cello and Piano
Emily chose to learn the Cello following encouragement from her primary school choir teacher! Music remained an active hobby, leading to her decision to study music at Bath Spa University in 1998.
Emily specialised in performance and composition at Bath Spa and was principal Cello of the University orchestra. She performed with local orchestras including Bath Philharmonia and the New Bristol Sinfonia. She also performed extensively with other varied ensembles, including Wind band (Oboe), Viol Consort (Tenor Viol), & String Ensembles (Cello) as part of the 'Rainbow Over Bath' concert series, Bath Festival and COMA contemporary music projects.
Emily's interest in music-making to benefit health and wellbeing lead to a PGdip in Music Therapy at Roehampton University in 2004, during which she also enjoyed performing freelance with semi-professional orchestras in London. She also performed frequently with pop/rock artists at well known music venues in London, such as Barfly and the Marquee club, as well as other city based music festivals, such as 'In the City' in Manchester, and at the Birmingham NEC 'Sound' event. She has enjoyed making recordings for up and coming artists, and was privileged to spend time doing this at Abbey Road Studios.
Currently, Emily works as a Music Therapist at Ravenswood Village, a residential community for adults with learning disabilities in Berkshire, and teaches Cello and Piano to children and adults in the Guildford area. She continues to enjoy playing with three very stylistically different chamber ensembles; The Marinescu Ensemble (String Quartet/Trio), the Delphi Trio, (Flute, Cello, Piano) and the Minerva Duo (Flute/Cello).
